Pivotstor Debuts “Five in One” Email Management Appliance: Archiving, Encryption, Anti-Spam, Anti-Virus and More Combined into One Device

Ease of installation and use designed for small, mid-size companies;
Product to be sold exclusively through resellers by company devoted to channel

SAN DIEGO, March 10, 2008 — PivotStor™ (www.pivotstor.com), a new company dedicated to delivering best-of-breed data protection, coupled with proven reliability and cost-effective performance, today introduced its new EP-Series™ email management appliance, designed to provide Email Lifecycle Protection™ to small and mid-sized organizations.

PivotStor officials also said the appliance will be sold exclusively through its global network of channel partners, underscoring the company’s commitment to resellers and integrators.

At a starting price of less than $1,300US, the EP-Series of appliances is a highly scalable solution enabling companies to grow and fully protect and manage their email while ensuring compliance with a full range of e-discovery, government and industry regulations, including Sarbanes-Oxley, Basel II, the UK Data Protection Act and more. Available in book-sized desktop, 1U and 2U rackmount configurations, the EP-Series easily and powerfully handles their email archiving requirements; it is capable of processing up to 830,000 email messages every day, or more than three billion a year.

“Email archiving is no longer important to only large companies. Smaller firms face the same pressures of regulatory compliance and e-discovery,” said Arun Taneja, founding analyst at the Taneja Group. “Companies recognize that email is where content resides; vendors who can deliver an email archiving product to mid-tier companies that’s easy to use with integrated anti-spam, encryption and anti-virus functionalities are in position to seize a leadership position.”

The PivotStor EP line of email management appliances includes EP-Ware™, five unique, powerful software applications, including industry-standard email anti-virus protection, that are integrated into one easily managed interface:

  • EP-Filter™: shuts down spam and computer viruses from hitting end-users’ mailboxes;
  • EP-Archive™: copies, indexes, classifies and archives all filtered email by user account;
  • EP-Secure™: automatically encrypts and digitally signs incoming and outgoing email for a higher level of security; and
  • EPC™: allows end-users to challenge and eliminate spam from reaching their in-box on an ongoing basis with one-click simplicity.

In addition, EP-Ware’s simple user interface makes it easy for both administrators and end-users to rapidly recover emails within minutes, whether accidentally deleted or needed as part of an e-discovery effort.

PivotStor’s EP-Series appliances also include integrated, advanced features such as “fuzzy filter”-enabled anti-spam capabilities, which automatically “learn” to distinguish and delete spam messages, thus lessening both the amount of spam that makes it to end-users’ inboxes, as well as reducing the number of false positives and industry-standard anti-virus software, with instant dynamic updates. All of these features are standard in every EP-Series appliance, from the entry-level device, which is designed to handle up to 50 email accounts to the enterprise model, designed for firms with more than 2,500 users.

PivotStor: new company, established channel reputation

The EP-Series appliances are the second line of products announced by PivotStor, as the company begins its public outreach in North America and the United Kingdom. Incorporated last year, PivotStor was founded by storage industry veterans with more than two centuries’ collective experience at companies such as Quantum, Overland Data, Seagate RSS, Veritas/Symantec, Certance, BakBone, BridgeHead Software, Fujitsu and more.

The company is focused on delivering a complete suite of data protection solutions that cost-effectively solve real customer problems. At the same time, PivotStor is unique in today’s marketplace with its “channel-exclusive” approach; its product line is available solely through authorized resellers.

“We’ve done significant research in the channel, and discovered that resellers are tired of being promised one thing by vendors, and ultimately being discarded,” said Jack Corrao, PivotStor’s President/Chief Operating Officer. “Our ‘channel-exclusive’ approach means exactly that: every product we sell, every sale we make will be handled by a channel partner. We will never take accounts away from our partners and sell direct. We believe there are significant ongoing opportunities working with the channel.”
